Air Quality Testing - How We Do It
Our Credentials
Our inspectors possess the highest recognized credentials in the indoor air quality space. Specifically, our bulk material testers/inspectors are licensed by NY state, and our air testing inspectors are certified by the Board of Global EHS Credentialing (BGC) as Certified Industrial Hygienists (CIHs). Additionally, all CIHs are also certified by the American Council for Accredited Certification as CIEC’s, and all technicians have advanced degrees (MS) in chemistry.
A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is a professional who specializes in the field of industrial hygiene. Industrial hygiene is a branch of occupational health and safety that focuses on the identification and control of workplace hazards to protect the health and well-being of workers and the community. CIHs are experts in assessing and managing various workplace hazards, including chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic factors.
To become a Certified Industrial Hygienist, individuals typically need to meet specific education and experience requirements and pass a rigorous certification examination administered by a recognized professional organization. In the United States, the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH) is the primary organization responsible for certifying industrial hygienists.
The typical requirements for CIH certification include:
Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline is usually required. Many CIHs also hold advanced degrees (e.g., master’s or doctorate) in industrial hygiene or a related field.
Experience: Candidates must have a minimum of four years of professional-level industrial hygiene experience, with at least two years of this experience being in a broad range of industrial hygiene practice areas.
Reference: Candidates need to provide references from experienced industrial hygienists or other professionals who can attest to their qualifications and experience.
Examination: CIH candidates must pass a comprehensive examination that covers various aspects of industrial hygiene, including risk assessment, hazard recognition, exposure assessment, control measures, and regulations.
Once an individual becomes a Certified Industrial Hygienist, they are expected to adhere to a strict code of ethics and continuing education requirements to maintain their certification. CIHs play a crucial role in promoting workplace safety and health by identifying and mitigating hazards, conducting exposure assessments, recommending control measures, and ensuring that organizations comply with relevant regulations and standards. They may work in various industries, including manufacturing, construction, healthcare, and environmental consulting.
