Types of Asbestos Testing

We perform two types of asbestos testing: materials testing on suspected asbestos-containing materials, and air testing to evaluate airborne asbestos fiber concentrations. Our services cover NYC, Long Island, Westchester, Nassau, and Suffolk counties.

Asbestos Materials Testing

Asbestos materials testing includes vinyl floor tiles, pipe wrap insulation, and ceiling tiles. Materials also include linoleum flooring, adhesives and mastics, caulking, roofing, shingles, plasters. and troweled-on cement materials. All samples are analyzed at a NY State accredited laboratory using the polarized light microscope and transmission electron microscope.

Our asbestos inspections include a site specific report summarizing the locations, quantities, and conditions of any asbestos containing materials present. Our reports are emailed to clients a few days after we receive the lab reports. Lab reports are available within a few days of our sampling.

Please call/email if you would like to discuss or schedule asbestos materials testing.

Asbestos Air Testing

To evaluate levels of asbestos fibers in the air, a vacuum air pump and tripod are set up in the testing location. Approximately 1200 liters of air are drawn through a 0.80 micron PVC filter cassette to capture any fibers in the air.

The sample is then analyzed at a NYS accredited laboratory using a phase contrast light microscope to determine the number of fibers on the filter inside the cassette. The laboratory may use a transmission electron microscope to confirm the presence of asbestos fibers.

To calculate the concentration of fibers, divide the number of fibers present by the volume (cubic meters) of air drawn through the cassette during the air sampling period.

Air testing for asbestos fibers should be considered whenever the incidental disturbance of asbestos-containing materials occurs or after asbestos abatement work.

Please call Angstrom Testing Services if you would like to discuss asbestos air sampling.

Home Depot Floor Tile Testing

Home Depot requires that existing floor tiles be tested for asbestos before any new flooring installation to ensure safety for homeowners and contractors. We provide asbestos testing for floor installation contractors working for the Home Depot.

Call Angstrom Testing Services today, and we will send one of our NY State licensed asbestos technicians to your home to perform the necessary testing. Laboratory results and a full report for your contractor are usually available within three to four days.

All asbestos bulk samples are collected in accordance with NYS Industrial Code Rule 56 and the samples are analyzed by laboratories accredited by the NYS Department of Health (i,e. ELAP-certified).

Please call today (516-724-4574) if you would like to schedule asbestos testing. We will determine whether a material contains asbestos, or we can evaluate levels of asbestos fibers in air.

Con Edison Requests

New York City residents may be required by Con Edison to conduct asbestos air quality testing before electrical work is conducted in their basements to ensure the health and safety of Con Edison employees. We can assist you with these requests.

A small vacuum pump is set up in the basement, and the pump draws air through a cassette over an approximately 90 minute period. Asbestos fibers are collected on the cassette, and the cassette is sent to the laboratory for analysis. A laboratory report indicating the asbestos fiber concentration is issued. The acceptable criteria is a concentration of less than 10 fibers per liter. in your basement.

We have been helping clients with these Con Edison requests for several years.

Call us today, and we will help you meet this criteria.

They were awesome! They really exert the effort to make sure the mold inspection is done correctly. I wanted to test the air on a condo that we were purchasing (because it had a strong damp smell when you walked in). Thanks, Angstrom Team for helping me in time.

Angstrom tested the water at each of the sinks in our daycare center for lead. They helped us get our license from the New York City Department of Health. They arrived on time and got the job done without any hassles and provided all the paperwork that I needed. Thanks again!
